The launch of construction work was authorised in June 2023 by prefectoral decree. This major project was the subject of public consultation in 2017-2018, as well as an impact study and public enquiry in December 2022.

HAROPA PORT has launched a consultation phase with companies to carry out the work, with bids due to be submitted in early 2024.

The main stages

After setting up a base camp, followed by the preparation of site access roads at the western end of Port 2000 and along the Compagnie Industrielle Maritime (CIM), the selected company will launch the construction of the breakwater and the protected shipping channel.

Mass transport is a strategic issue for the competitiveness and decarbonisation of HAROPA PORT's supply chain. This step is therefore a major milestone for France's leading port.

Did you know? The "chatière" project involves the construction of a breakwater and a 2 km-long channel at the entrance to the port of Le Havre. Thanks to this work, the entire existing river fleet will be able to access the maritime terminals of Port 2000 and navigate on the Seine : self-propelled vessels, pushed convoys made up of pushers and river barges, and river-sea vessels.
