traffics : 2024, a new model of growth with an increase of traffic and industrial projects

HAROPA PORT registered solid results in 2024, marked by an increase in maritime traffic (+2.4%, 83.2 Mt) and new industrial sites on the Seine axis. Containers: historic growth

  • traffic up by 18.7% to a record 3.1 MEVP,
  • strong growth in transhipment, +56% compared with 2023,
  • growth in inland traffic, +7%.

This dynamic in container traffic is also illustrated by an increase in the number of calls to Le Havre.

In 2025, the arrival of seven new TiL MSC gantry cranes at the Terminal de Normandie (TNMSC) and the Terminal Porte Océane (TPO) will mark a new stage in the port's competitiveness.

Liquid and solid bulk: a cyclical decline

  • liquid bulk: 39.97 Mt (-5.1%) including 19.4 Mt of crude oil (-1.5%) and 15.3 Mt of refined products (-6.3%), due to technical incidents at local refineries and geopolitical tensions (Red Sea, weak oil demand in China),
  • dry bulk  was down 7.5% at 11.75 Mt, with cereals down 4% at 7.08 Mt and aggregates down 28.4%, impacted by increased competition in the Black Sea, a poor grain harvest  and the slowdown in local construction sector due to the completion of major Parisian projects and the sharp slowdown in new construction.

Ro-Ro: on the rise

Vehicle traffic up 5.6% to 272,563 units: HAROPA PORT stands out thanks to optimised management of its real estate, against a backdrop of saturation in European ports.

Cruises: a booming sector

512,784 passengers (+11.6%) and 206 cruise ship calls in 2024 (compared with 182 in 2023, +13.2%);
2025 will see the continuation of the modernisation the Pointe de Floride terminals in Le Havre, with ‘zero emission’ infrastructures by 2026.

A record year for modal shift

Against a backdrop of river traffic (down 8% to 18 Mt), the river and rail containers activities had an excellent year, with :

  • more than 220,000 TEU transported between to/from Le Havre, including a significant increase at Gennevilliers: +11% of TEU,
  • and almost 120,000 TEU transported by rail to/from the hinterland, supported by new services connected to the sea terminals: Tours and Clermont Ferrand, or the strengthened links to Lyon and Bordeaux.

+ 29% investment to become the port of green industry

HAROPA PORT continues to structure the green logistics corridor and confirms its key role in the ecological transition and economic attractiveness of the Seine axis. In 2024, the port authority continued to invest in :

In all, the port invested €146m over the past year, with the support of its co-funders, the Normandy and Ile-de-France Regions and the French government.

Outlook for 2025: acceleration of strategic projects contributing to the decarbonisation of the Seine axis, including the chatière at Le Havre and the Port Seine-Métropole Ouest platform, and new industrial sites resulting from calls for projects in 2024.
