This is the first in a series of 12 ro-ro vessels ordered by the Norwegian shipowner from the China Merchants Industry yard.

The ‘Höegh Aurora’ is also the first Pure Car, Truck Carrier (PCTC) to receive DNV ‘ammonia-ready’ and ‘methanol-ready’ certification. The vessel runs on both liquefied natural gas (LNG) and biofuels. Its engine is also designed to be compatible with future sustainable fuels, such as clean ammonia.

The first Aurora Class vessels will initially run on LNG, with a 58% lower carbon footprint than the standard PCTCs in the industry.

From 2027, when technology is ready, Höegh Autoliner's plan is to have the first Aurora Class vessels ready to run on ammonia, driving the company toward net-zero.

Capable of carrying up to 9,100 cars, this vessel will be the world's largest car transporter.

The Aurora Class will propel Höegh Autoliners towards the 2040 IMO’s target and contribute to the port's objective of net zero emissions’ ports of call. More broadly, this inaugural call at Le Havre strengthens the attractiveness of the ro-ro terminal.
